Meet trailblazer, Laura Bradley - One of our National Business Development Managers

This month, in honour of International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the accomplishments of some of our female leaders.

We sat down with Laura Bradley, GB’s National Business Development Manager, and found out a little more about her time at GB.

As GB’s National Business Development manager Laura works across GB’s different product lines to develop customised claims management packages that suit the needs of our national clients. Elements of her role include developing long-term organisational strategic goals, building key relationships with international intermediaries and maintaining extensive knowledge of current market conditions.

When did you join GB and in what role?

I joined GB in 2012 as a Team Leader as part of our South Australian workers’ compensation start up.

What has been your journey to get to your current position?

Since joining GB I’ve had opportunities to work in a wide range of roles across our South Australian and Victorian operations. After being promoted from Team Leader to Team Manager I worked in a variety of positions including Claims Practices Manager, Branch Manager and Customer Service Manager. I enjoy working in different areas of the business to broaden my understanding of the GB network, and I love that my current role, National Business Development Manager, lets me draw on that entire network to find better ways of doing things for clients.

What does your current role involve?

A lot of my work involves GB’s national workers’ compensation services. Some workers’ compensation solutions are tied to individual states, which can be a source of frustration for larger national organisations. GB offers a unique service that provides national employers with a consistent ‘one-stop-shop’ workers’ compensation solution. My role is to work with national employers to understand their objectives and develop claims management packages that suit them. I work closely with our account management team and operational managers to tailor claims services to the individual needs of our clients.

What do you enjoy most about working at GB?

The culture and family feel. New ideas are always welcome, even when they challenge conventional ways of thinking, and I like that we are an organisation that is moving forward. We have a genuine desire to support our clients and we enjoy what we do.  We don’t mind having a laugh and the odd beer either.

What do you enjoy most about working with clients?

I love working with clients to resolve what can often feel like impossible problems.   I enjoy listening to clients and partnering with them to come up with solutions that are tangible – the more difficult the problem and more unique the solution the better. I also really enjoy getting to know our clients’ wider business, not just the insurance side.  Some of our clients do some pretty exciting stuff, and I don’t think you can really support a client until you understand what they do, and why they do it!

What are you looking forward to doing/being involved in at GB this year, and how will this impact clients?

I’m really excited about some new services coming out this year which will help our clients move their businesses forward and spend less time on insurance, and more time focussing on what they know best!

What are some of your accomplishments during your time at GB that you are most proud of?

I have been part of some large projects at GB including the Scheme reform in SA.  I was part of the team who helped get our mobile case managers on the road in South Australia. This was the first time mobile case management had been piloted in Australia – being part of the team who got it up and running and seeing how successful it’s been in improving service to employers and injured workers in South Australia was incredibly satisfying.

How has GB supported you and your career?

GB has always supported me, encouraged me and pushed me to achieve my career goals.  I have been provided with excellent mentors and, if ever not successful in role applications, I have been given clear pathways to success and advice on “where to from here”. They have also been incredibly supportive of personal goals and work-life balance.
