Deb’s primary focus is to assist employers to reduce the financial and human cost of workplace injuries. This is achieved through best practice injury management while acting as the employer’s advocate, together with injury prevention services. Risk is reduced significantly by building safer work places through delivering accredited safety and injury management training. Deb works collaboratively with employer senior management teams to implement sustainable strategies for cost reductions in a variety of small to large businesses, not-for-profit and government organisations throughout Australia. Clients benefit in a multitude of ways, predominantly through significantly reduced Workers Compensation costs, improved retention and morale of employees, and competitive advantage in tenders where safety is a consideration.

Deb began her career as a physiotherapist working in specialist units (ICU, burns & plastics), subsequently went into private practice working with hand and reconstructive plastic surgeons for 5 years. A number of these cases were work related and therefore Deb’s interest in preventing and managing serious work-related injuries began. Over the next 15 years Deb worked as a rehabilitation consultant for a vocational rehabilitation provider, an injury management advisor for a large insurance company, was the Manager of Health Safety and Welfare at the WA Fire service and then moved on to become the Director of Workplace Services for Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT).

Deb is passionate about the importance of the employers’ role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of their employees, and particular in the ownership and management of all aspects of people risk. This led Deb to understand the critical areas of workplace injury which impact an employer (treatment, rehab, insurance, employer responsibilities and broking) and the recognition that no one in the market brought all of these skills to represent an employer.

In 2002, Deb established Aurenda to deliver these services, as the sole owner and it was acquired by Gallagher Bassett in 2018. Deb is striving to ensure that Aurenda provides a comprehensive service to employers including but not limited to:

  • Claims analysis;
  • Safety Risk assessments;
  • Injury management surveys;
  • Safety and Injury Management Training;
  • Workshop facilitation; and
  • Comprehensive best practise injury management for work related and non work-related injuries.
